Tuvalu commitments to gender equality, youth development, and the rights of persons with disabilities

Tuvalu has committed to promote gender equality and social inclusion, including the rights of persons with disabilities and youth development. Those policies set priorities and it is the responsibility of the whole of government, in all sectors, including the Kaupules, to implement the policies.

Tuvalu’s commitments to GESI are also reflected in other national and sectoral policies and strategies.

Several regional frameworks and international human rights and gender equality instruments have been endorsed by Tuvalu. Those instruments offer guidelines and state the roles and obligations of the government. Besides the specific gender equality and human rights instruments, there are regional and international instruments related to development, peace and security, and environments that also include references to gender equality, social inclusion and human rights because there is an agreement that those are important factors to achieve development goals.
